I built Into the Green/ Rein ins Grün in my parents backyard during my stay in Germany in 2021/22. I was sleeping in my fathers home office during the time and was looking for a way to create a little space for myself. After convincing my mother that the structure would be perfect for housing all the garden tools in the winter time I went to work. The structure for Into the Green is built from heavy duty metal shelfs. The metal shop I was helping out at the time was throwing them out. For wood I took discarded furniture apart and sourced local construction sites. Most of the plexiglass I found in front of a local makers space. The giant cabinet mirror which I attached to back wall makes the space feel much bigger. Looking at it from far away it seem like the yard continues behind the structure. The mirror was another present inform of a curb alert. I glued a billboard, advertising Bad Birnbach, a Bavarian spa town, on the front of the structure. The ad slogan “Rein ins Grüne Glück/Into the Green Luck” just seemed fitting. Located between two oak trees and backed against a garage the location of the structure feels very protected. One feels like way out in the countryside when laying on the small mattress inside the structure. Even though a neighboring apartment building is towering just feet away and the local tram tracks are passing right behind the property line. Peaking through the trees is the tower of the baroque church St. Michael, which was finished building in the year 1700. It’s Bavaria after all! For now: Rein ins Grün! - Tim Maxeiner
